The Taunton Academy Opening in September

The sponsors of The Taunton Academy have received a letter from Secretary of State Michael Gove MP regarding the capital funding for building work at the Taunton Academy.  This followed a personal phone call from Lord Hill, the new Schools' Minister.

Michael Gove’s letter indicates that news about the capital allocation for academy projects not due for immediate build will now follow the completion of the Comprehensive Spending Review in October.  He says that the Government will work with sponsors now to see what scope there is for projects to proceed more cost-effectively.

The Secretary of State for the Department of Children, Schools and Families has signed the Funding Agreement, securing the future for the new academy in Taunton.

Proposals for a new Academy for Taunton moved a step closer today (9 December 2009), following the decision of Somerset County Council Cabinet members to approve the closure of Ladymead Community School and The St Augustine of Canterbury School.
